This weekend, two unique events will have Branson area visitors and locals alike lining up to participate in the fun.

2011 Super Summer Cruise

Branson’s premiere car event takes place August 9-11 as the the Super Summer Cruise revs up the excitement in the “Live Music Show Capital of the World”.  The rally features the Show’n'Shine with over 500 cars and trucks on display at The Shepherd of the Hills Historic Homestead, and culminates in the MIDNIGHT CRUISE on Saturday night August 13, 2011.

The Midnight Cruise Route begins at the corner of Highway 76 & Shepherd of the Hills Expressway continuing on down to Roark Valley Road. Thousands of classic car fans will line both sides of the expressway as the classic cars (full of Branson stars) pass by such popular attractions as the Imax Entertainment Complex, the Shoji Tabuchi, Pierce Arrow, and Hamner Barber Theaters.  This will be a continual cruise with no stopping and starting. The expressway will be closed to traffic at beginning at 11:00pm and many folks stake out their favorite viewing spots one or two days early by placing a folding chair along the cruise route in advance.  See a video clip from last year’s Super Summer Cruise below.

 The Kiss of All Kisses

If you attend the Super Summer Cruise, you’ll get a sneak peak at something special that will be officially displayed on Sunday, August 14th at 5:30pm on the Town Square of Branson Landing.  The Branson Veteran’s Task Force invites everyone for the unveiling ceremony of “The Kiss” statue, featuring live music from the Springfield Brass Quintet.

The life-sized 700-pound statue is a full-color replica of the legendary photograph of a sailor kissing a New York City nurse taken in 1945 in Times Square when a crowd was celebrating the announcement that World War II had ended.

“The Kiss” is a project of “Keep the Spirit of ‘45 Alive,” a non-profit organization to help preserve the legacy of the men and women of the Greatest Generation and help inspire a renewal of national unity in America. Hundreds of “Spirit of ’45 Day” activities are being planned across America this month including celebrations at state veterans homes, wreath-laying ceremonies and programs organized by World War II museums.

“The Kiss” will be on display at Branson Landing for two weeks only beginning this Sunday. Call the Branson Veteran’s Task Force at 417-337-8387 for more information or visit www.SpiritOf45.org.
